Complete Solar Panel Kit Provides Answers for Campers
Mar 7, 2007, 17:42

Motoring accessory market leader, Projecta, has released an 80 Watt Solar Panel packed in a complete and practical travel kit ideal for campers and outback travellers wanting to power a compressor fridge. Providing the complete solution with a charging controller and two hinged solar panels, each 545 x 675 mm, the whole kit fits easily into the boot of a car.

Built into the solar panel kit is a controller which enables a battery to be maintained in a fully charged state while protecting it from overcharging or solar discharge. Internal diode protection results in both panels producing power, even if one is in the shade, and LED lights indicate the various stages of charging.

Projecta’s polycrystalline solar panels are manufactured from solar cells cast in silicon, proven to be more efficient at producing power in smaller panels. Clear encapsulated insulation enhances solar cell performance and provides increased weather protection. The use of tempered low iron glass gives better impact resistance and more light transmission, improving power production by reducing the quantity of light reflected from the module. Each solar panel is surrounded in a heavy duty corrosion resistant frame.

A five metre power lead and battery clips enables the vehicle to be parked in the shade while the panel is fully exposed to the sun’s rays in an open area. To ensure the full benefit of the suns rays is utilised, the opened panel is hinged and instructions list the correct angle to set the panel facing north in various locations throughout Australia and the immediate Asia Pacific region.

Back stays, which adjust to the various angles, can be secured to the ground with pegs to provide additional stability.

For convenience, the folded panels have a solid carry handle and safety loop to help prevent damage to the solar panel. Compact in size, the whole unit folds up easily and packs into a durable padded carry bag for additional protection whist being stored or stowed in the vehicle when travelling.

The new Projecta Solar Panel Kit is available from leading accessory retailers and 4WD outlets throughout Australia and sells at approximately $1,399.00.
