Mazda2 Steps into September Sales Spotlight
Oct 9, 2007, 10:22

The all-new Mazda2 has helped Australia’s top-selling import brand achieve its best ever light car segment sales and contributed to Mazda Australia’s record September sales performance of 6,016 retails.

According to September VFACTS figures released today, Mazda’s smallest car notched its best ever sales month with 896 retails (combined first and second generation Mazda2 sales) and achieved a market share of 9.2 per cent. This is Mazda Australia’s best ever share in the light car (sub $25k) market.

Year-to-date Mazda has sold 57,658 vehicles and maintains a strong market share of 7.4 per cent. This is a significant sales increase of 18.9 per cent over the same time last year.

Consolidating its strong stance as number four on the sales table, Mazda has extended lead over its closest import rival to 11,630 sales.

Mazda3 was another top performer. Last month Mazda3 was the second highest selling car in the small car segment (sub $40k) with 2677 retails and a year-to-date market share of 15.5 per cent. This is an increase of 8.4 per cent over the same time last year.

Mazda6 consolidated its position as the top import in the medium car segment (sub $60,000) with 917 retails and market share of 15.8 per cent. This is compared with 13 per cent share achieved in the same period last year.

Mazda’s diesel-powered light commercial BT-50 range was another stand out achieving its best ever sales month with 878 retails. Sales of the BT-50 accounted for 6.2 per cent of the Light Commercial segment. Combined sales of the BT-50, CX-7 (470) and Tribute (68) secured Mazda its best ever September for commercial sales.

Doug Dickson, managing director of Mazda Australia, said: “We only launched the all-new Mazda2 half way through last month but the interest this car has already generated shows that we have yet another Stylish, Insightful and Spirited winner on our hands.

“We are already attracting a younger buyer to our new super little model and it will help us achieve our record sales target of 75,000 vehicles by year’s end.”
