Mitsubishi to Unveil the All-New Lancer Evolution
Oct 9, 2007, 10:09

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited will unveil the all-new Lancer Evolution performance sedan, affectionately known as the Evo to its legion of fans, on October 11th at the Australian International Motor Show, Sydney.

Eagerly anticipated by performance vehicle enthusiasts around the world, the production model of the all new Lancer Evolution will make both its Australian debut and its global motor show debut at the Sydney show.

The newest and most sophisticated version of the legendary Evo bloodline, concept and prototype versions of the 2008 Lancer Evolution have won high praise for their attractive, contemporary and powerful styling cues. The production model of the Lancer Evolution stays true to the concept and the finished package hints at the agility and flexibility of the vehicle.

With an impeccable lineage that has included nine race, rally and award winning models - several of which have been sold in the Australian market - the 2008 Lancer Evolution is ready to take its place in Mitsubishi’s local line-up beside the just-released Lancer sedan range.

Robert McEniry, CEO and President of MMAL, announced the inclusion of the all-new Evo at the Sydney show. “Mitsubishi’s Australian range is constantly improving, but the 2008 Lancer Evolution is certainly the pinnacle of our line-up.”

“Last month, we launched the all new Lancer sedan line-up, with benchmark levels of safety – including stability control standard across the range - and it gives me great pleasure to announce the preview of the first of the performance variants to the Lancer line-up.” Mr McEniry said.

While remaining true to the core values that have made the Lancer Evolution synonymous with thrilling performance, the next-generation model offers the all-round capability and user technology that distinguish the world’s best performance models.

Powered by an all-new 2.0-litre turbocharged and intercooled engine, the 2008 Lancer Evolution promises show-stopping performance and enhanced levels of engine flexibility.

The all-new Evolution showcases cutting edge vehicle-control engineering and technology such as the well publicised Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system which offers extraordinary levels of driver control, and the new optional automated manual Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST).

“The important thing to remember about the 2008 Lancer Evolution is that it is a complete performance package,” Mr McEniry said. “Not only does the vehicle have a powerful new engine, but the user technology inherent in the vehicle ensures incredible flexibility and grip and enhanced handling and dynamics.”

“And the icing on the cake? It looks absolutely fantastic.” Mr McEniry added.

Pricing and specifications for the 2008 Lancer Evolution range have not yet been finalised, but the company has indicated that it will follow the Mitsubishi mantra of offering attractive, quality-engineered vehicles at extremely sharp price points.

Also featured on the Mitsubishi stand at the Australian International Motor Show will be the full range of variants from the all-new Lancer sedan. Released just last week, the 2008 Lancer range includes three highly specified variants- the ES, VR and VRX - all jam-packed with a host of important safety features including Active Stability Control with Traction Control (ASTC) standard across the entire range.

The Australian International Motor Show opens to the public at 5.00pm on Thursday, October 11th at the Darling Harbour Exhibition and Convention Centre, Sydney.
