The greatest collection of local and American muscle cars ever assembled for an Australian sale will be pumping their ‘pecs’ at the Australian International Motor Show Auction presented by Shannons on Sunday October 21, with many expected to go for record prices.
The Australian Muscle Cars are:
a pair of GT-HO Falcons (a very original Brambles Red 1970 Phase II and a fully-restored Monza Green 1971 Phase III), expected to sell for up to $450,000 and $800,000 respectively;
perhaps Australia’s finest 1973 Falcon XA GT RPO83 Hardtop, finished in Yellow Glo, in exceptional condition and expected to sell in the $180,000-$220,000 price range;
an exceptionally-original, Gold and 34,849 mile-young 1967 Falcon XR GT that was selected by FPV for the photo shoot of the new 40th Anniversary GT model in February this year ($100,000-$130,000);
a rare Sebring Orange 1969 HT Monaro GTS 350 in mint condition and totally authentic in every detail ($150,000-$180,000);
a very collectable 1972 LJ Torana XU-1 finished in ‘Lone O’Ranger’ that is believed to be the lowest mileage (21,592 miles) example on the market ($85,000-$100,000);
a very desirable and now increasingly valuable 1980 Firethorn Red VC HDT ‘Brock’ Commodore (number 206 of the limited run of 500) in good restored condition ($50,000-$65,000);
a rare Chateau Mauve Metallic 1972 Monaro LS 350 coupe in superb fully restored condition ($30,000-$40,000).
The American Muscle Cars in the auction include:
a genuine, left hand drive Acapulco Blue 1967 Shelby Mustang GT350 Fastback in completely restored, correct and immaculate condition that Shannons expect to sell for $200,000-$240,000;
a well-documented (left hand drive) 1970 Boss 302 Mustang finished in Medium Red and in remarkable, stock condition ($110,000-$140,000);
a low and spectacular 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Seville coupe customised by legendary American hot rod builder John D'Agostino's of Kustom Cars. Christened ‘Cool 57’, the Caddy won numerous awards in the United States before joining a large private collection in Australia several years ago. For its statement value alone, Shannons are quoting a price range of $70,000-$100,000;
a now-rare 1974 (left hand drive) Plymouth 'Cuda' 440 Hardtop in restored and remarkably sound condition fitted with a potent 440-cid Chrysler V8 engine and reconditioned 727 automatic transmission, but also being sold with its original matching numbers 360 engine/transmission included.
The Aussie and US Muscle Cars are amongst 32 special vehicles in this year’s Australian International Motor Show Auction presented by Shannons on October 21.
They will be joined in the auction by 62 special black and white numeric number plates for cars and motorcycles, 50 of which are being auctioned unreserved by Shannons on behalf of the NSW RTA, while the others are being offered on behalf private vendors.
All auction lots will be on display at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre throughout the Motor Show from October 11-21, with eight special vehicles, including the Phase III GT-HO, the Monaro GTS 350, XA GT RPO83, Shelby GT350 and the Cadillac Eldorado custom, displayed on the special Shannons stand in Hall 2, while the remainder of the lots will be located in the newly-developed Palm Grove area, between the SCEC and the IMAX cinema.
