| The 1990 BMW K1 being auctioned by Shannons represents a great opportunity for enthusiasts to acquire one of these technically important motorcycles |
If you’re a shy, traditional biker, who still believes proper motorcycles don’t have more than two cylinders and enjoy the patter of rain on your black leathers, BMW’s radically-styled K1 introduced in 1988 is not the machine for you.
With Its enveloping wind-tunnel-designed faring, generous rear shroud with its integrated panniers and hooded front wheel, the BMW K1 is a knock out motorcycle that guarantees its rider spotlight status wherever it goes.
But if you appreciate the technical significance of BMW’s first liquid-cooled production bike, with its ground-breaking 0.38 Cd aerodynamics and innovative Paralever suspension, then you can’t go past the striking red and yellow K1 that Shannons are auctioning in Sydney on Monday (March 6).
Powered by an all-new 100HP in-line four cylinder, four-valve engine, the K1 was a true superbike. With a tested top speed of over 270km/h and acceleration from 0-100km/h in around two seconds, its performance is still right up there with the best of the modern café racers.
The Australian-delivered 1990 model K1 being auctioned by Shannons has been in the hands of its second owner for the past five years and is in superb, original condition.
Shannons expect the head-turning and ultimately very collectable BMW to sell In the $5,000-$7,500 range.
The BMW K1 is one of 26 vehicle and 14 memorabilia lots in Monday’s Shannons auction. All lots can be viewed at Shannons showroom, Unit B, 12 Frederick Street, St. Leonards (enter via 65 Reserve Road) from 9.00am-4.00pm on Saturday and Sunday, March 4 and 5, with Monday’s auction starting at 7.00pm.
